Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you not accept insurance? Insurance companies are varied in their mental health coverage. They require an excess of paperwork and an official clinical diagnosis for reimbursement. What most clients do not know is that their health and life insurance premiums may be increased due to a mental health diagnosis. This means that for your clinician to be paid by the insurance company, they must report an official diagnostic code such as depression, anxiety, or personality disorder. This diagnosis will be on your permanent health record forever. This diagnosis can affect your ability to get life insurance or significantly increase your health insurance premium rates. At The MindSpa, we will NOT report any diagnostic information to an outside insurance source. Our appointment prices often cost less than other private counseling practices simply because we generate less billing and paperwork. Appointments are comparable in pricing to other personal health services. You can also save up to 30% per session by purchasing Custom Counseling Appointment Packages. Let’s Put The MindSpa Services Into Perspective:
Back to TopHow do I make an appointment? Custom Counseling Appointments can be scheduled anytime online under the "Book Your Appointment" section. When you are ready to schedule your appointment, you will be asked to complete a profile with a password so that you may easily access your account at anytime. You are required to pre-pay for the appointment to secure your appointment. You may also contact our receptionist at 859-261-9000 from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The receptionist will ask for the same information as the online scheduling system to secure your appointment. Back to TopHow many sessions do I need to attend for my situation? For most people, the first session is for the counselor to understand your history, your situation, and understand your goals for counseling. The second session is where real work begins for you and the counselor. Homework assignments may be given and you may even practice new strategies to use at home and during the session. The third session and beyond is about evaluating how things are going, what else needs to be modified, and how the homework/new skills are progressing. Sometimes folks will come back several months later for a tune-up to re-evaluate progress and make a few adjustments so that they do not fall back into poor habits or behaviors. Back to TopWho should attend the session? You make the first step in bringing about change in your life by scheduling the first appointment and discussing your concerns with your counselor. Back to TopWhat do I need to bring to an appointment? Please complete the History Form prior to your appointment. Download here Back to TopWhat is a counselor? . The MindSpa only employs Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Social Workers with a Masters Degree who are trained in counseling interventions. We believe in focusing on the positives of a client and their situation as opposed to labeling a diagnosis on the individual. Click here to learn more about our counselors. Back to Top How long are appointments? Custom Counseling Appointments are 45 minutes in length and begin on the hour. Please be aware that our counselors have appointments back to back. We realize that your time is valuable. To ensure timeliness of appointments, if you arrive late, your appointment may be less than 45 minutes so the next appointment is not delayed. Educational Seminars are 60 minutes in length. Open houses are free for clients to attend and offer an opportunity to meet with counselors. Back to TopDo I get to choose my counselor? Absolutely. Again, at The MindSpa, you are in control of your appointments. You may read about our staff, their area of expertise, and view pictures. You can also choose your counselor to coincide with your schedule. Staff bios are available here as well as on our online scheduling program. Click here to learn more about our counselors. Back to TopWhat if I have to cancel my appointment? You may cancel or reschedule your appointment online at anytime prior to 8:00am the day of your appointment online. Click Here to Schedule After 8:00am you will be charged for your appointment unless there is a serious emergency. For emergencies, the receptionist must be notified at 859-261-9000 within 24 hours for your account to be credited. This permits you to apply this credit to another appointment. There are no refunds. Should there be inclement weather, for the safety of our staff and your family, our office will be closed if Newport Local Schools are closed. Please look at your local school closings on television or online for updates. Your appointment will be credited to you for you to reschedule another appointment. Back to Top |
